Staying at Garden Cottage

Some of you might have seen a few clues about my upcoming trip to England for the Jane Austen Regency Week Festival. So I decided to share with you where I am going to stay!

It will be my second time in Alton, Hampshire where Jane’s Chawton Cottage  and Museum is located but it will be my first time in the great house where Jane’s brother Edward Knight lived. Staying at the Garden Cottage will be extra especial since the building used to belong to the great estate when Jane lived in the area. I can’t wait to get there and take more pictures for you guys. These were taken my very dear friend and fiction author Cass Grafton (on top of being a great photographer and videomaker).

The Garden House is a five bedroom family house situated in 2 1/2 acres of beautifully maintained historic gardens within easy walking distance of The Chawton House Library and St. Nicholas’ Church. It is also close to the Jane Austen Museum, Cassandra’s Cup Café and The Greyfriar Public House. I am looking forward to having many walks around all these places retracing Jane’s steps and finding my own favorite spots. The last time I was there it was December and it was beautiful. I  can imagine how lovely it will be in June.

Look at the surrounding areas of the Cottage!

Chawton, a small quintessential English village, is situated 2.5 miles outside the market town of Alton in an area of outstanding natural beauty within the South Downs National Park.

Chawton was home to Jane Austen during the last 8 years of her life in a house which is now preserved as a museum in her memory.

Local attractions include the Cathedral City of Winchester 16 miles to the West of the village. The historic naval port of Portsmouth is 30 miles south.

Basingstoke (where her statue now stands and soon photographed by yours truly) is in close proximity. Regular trains leave Alton Main Line Station straight to London Waterloo.

Hopefully this cute room will be mine but if not I will take more pictures. Don’t fret! I also included more information below if you want to contact them in the future and have your own unique experience into the world of our beloved Jane.

1 Double bedroom with en suite facilities from £85 per night including breakfast 1 Double bedroom with basin and adjacent private shower room/bathroom/WC from £75 per night including breakfast.
